FireCamp2 is a collaborative project between research units of LAETA (Associated Laboratory for Energy, Transports and Aeronautics) with the aim of studying the fire risk in areas dedicated to camping and caravanning activities. FireCamp2 follows the previous project FireCamp1, by the same LAETA consortium, which has made preliminary studies on the same topic.

The main objectives of FireCamp2 are:

  • Analysis and understanding of the fire risk related to camping activities

  • Modelling the burning of camping tents and caravans

  • Definition of good practices to reduce the fire risk related to camping activities

  • Development of a safety manual against fires related to camping activities

  • Dissemination of the achievements among the interested parties.

 

The structure of FireCamp2 is divided into several tasks and actions, namely:

  • T1 – Characterization of the problem

    • Analysis of legislation and normatives

    • Analysis of fire events related to camping activities

    • Analysis of previous studies on this thematic

  • T2 – Characterization of fire risk

    • Characterization of materials and equipment used in camping activities

    • Characterization of camping areas and respective surroundings

    • Modelling of burning tents

  • T3 – Reduction of fire risk

    • Survey and assessment of situations of fire risk

    • Elaboration of a safety manual for mitigation of the fire risk in areas dedicated to camping and caravanning activities  

  • T4 – Dissemination

  • T5 - Management
